A precise repair that retains as much original fabric as practical

Indenting removes a defined area of unsound stone and introduces a compatible natural-stone piece. It is useful where deterioration is too deep for a mortar repair but does not justify replacing a complete block or architectural element.

The defective area is carefully cut back to a stable profile with sufficient depth and sound bearing. The new piece is worked to suit the opening, bedded and finished in accordance with the repair design, with joints and tooling aligned to the surrounding masonry.

Poorly proportioned or shallow indents can fail prematurely. Restorex considers exposure, water shedding, bedding direction, edge distances and the condition of adjacent stone before agreeing the repair geometry.

Frequently asked questions

Stone indenting and piecing-in Edinburgh FAQs

Is an indent stronger than a plastic repair?

The methods serve different conditions. A properly formed natural-stone indent is normally preferred where decay is deep or a structural edge or profile must be reinstated.

Will the new stone look different?

Fresh stone often appears cleaner initially. Careful matching and finishing allow it to weather sympathetically alongside the existing masonry.

Can several indents be completed within one elevation?

Yes. Repairs can be scheduled by location and priority within a wider façade programme.
